Self-Guided Tour 14 - Swiss & Austrian Alps Motorcycle Tour
Depart and return when it suits you

A tour that combines mountains, dramatic scenery, and motorcycling.
This tour gives you opportunity to spend more time at each destination to explore more both regions and also ride the local mountain roads and passes with no luggage.
After a short channel crossing you ride towards your first overnight stop in rural France where you’ll stay in a three star hotel with secure parking, swimming pool and its own excellent restaurant.
On this tour you shall ride routes that include some of the most famous mountain passes such as Furka, Grimselpass, Susten, Arlberg Pass, Silveretta Pass, Piller Pass, Ressia Pass and the Weissseespitze Glacier.
Your first base in Switzerland is in Lauterbrunen where you stay in a three star hotel, with en-suite rooms, safe motorcycle park, drying facilities and its own restaurant. Lauterbrunen is a popular tourist village close to many shops and restaurants and also to the rail station which makes it the ideal starting point for either going to Interlaken or joining one of the numerous Alpine train journeys.
On your days off there will be the choice of riding the mountain roads to the ski resort of Grindewald or visit the spectacular Trummelbach waterfalls.
If you don’t fancy riding you may take a cable car to the alpine garden on the Schynige Pllate or visit the summit of the Heimwehfluh and the Top of Europe / Jungfrau that can be reached by a short ride on a funicular railway.
From Lauterbrunen you move on to our next destination at the world’s most glamorous ski resort St Moritz, which is perhaps better known as a ski resort and winter playground for the rich and famous. However, as Summer arrives the whole region rapidly transforms into a fantastic motorcycling destination.
Here you’ll stay in a three star family run hotel and use it as your base to venture into Italy to explore the the charming alpine village of Glorenza and ride the Ofen, Stelvio, Umbrail, Julier and Fluela mountain passes.
Next you cross into Austria where you’ll stay in a four star hotel (with bike-garaging) which is run by a husband and wife team who are also keen bikers themselves.
The chalet type hotel is situated overlooking an alpine valley surrounded by a forest, providing you with an ideal location to enjoy the panoramic views over the surrounding mountains and to relax and reflect on the day’s events.
Each day trip will be rounded off by a relaxing ride back to the hotel, just in time for a gourmet evening meal. If you prefer it you can park your bike and rest for a day or two and enjoy the hotel’s facilities that include a swimming pool, spa, beauty and massage room and bar.
The secure underground garage contains a bike jet wash and repair facilities if required. The hotel is also an official BMW Roadtesting Centre and for a nominal fee it is possible to hire a brand new BMW motorcycle for the day.
With two further overnight stops, you’ll return to the UK via the Black Forest and the Champagne region of France.
